Giuseppe Campuzano: Línea de Vida
Curator: Miguel A. López
Artist: Giuseppe Campuzano
In 2003, artist and activist Giuseppe Campuzano (Lima, 1969–2013) founded the “Museo Travesti del Perú” to explore the history of transvestism. Blending academic studies, performances, fiction, video, and activism, his work offered an “archaeology of the transvestite body” to empower trans communities and create a joyful transgender visual narrative. The museum, featuring photos, replicas, textiles, videos, and more, was presented as a traveling kiosk and in graphic works, including a 2008 book. “Línea de vida” (2009–2013) debuted at the First Chile Triennial and evolved until Campuzano’s death in 2013. Posthumously shown in São Paulo (2014) and Medellín (2015), it was acquired by MALI in 2016.
