Christina Quarles

Christina Quarles presents us with images of bodies and people affected by an excess of representation. The challenge in her paintings is to deal with a destabilized notion of fixed subjectivity: be it identity, gender or relationship. Her subjects are never vague, but the opposite: they are ambiguous thanks to this excess of information/representation. The result is a perpetual questioning of reality.
