Michael Loveland: [In Process] Civic Sculpture
Locust Projects, 3852 North Miami Avenue
“[In Process] Civic Sculpture” is the new work created by artist Michael Loveland as part of his residency at Locust Projects. The site-specific installation includes several functional sculpture, informed by the artist’s experience in civic activism. In particular, Loveland was actively involved in the process of bringing historic designation to the Palm Grove neighbourhood in 2009 creating the largest historic district in Miami-Dade County and working with the community and civic government to return indigenous plants to the neighborhood. The functional works are intended to facilitate the involvement of the locals, through a programme of workshops focused on environmentalism and advocacy.
