Mira Lehr: Second Nature
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden announces the opening of artist Mira Lehr’s Second Nature multimedia exhibition, the newest show in the Art at Fairchild series held in the Adam R. Rose and Peter R. McQuillan Arts Center. The exhibition will be on view daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Second Nature uses non-traditional materials including burnt fuse lines, resin, Japanese paper, and dyes to highlight the ephemeral qualities of nature and to portray its less tangible and more enigmatic nuances. Lehr hopes to take her viewers on an exploratory meditative journey through the fragile and powerful qualities of the natural world. The exhibition also responds to South Florida’s unique landscapes and complex relationships to human and natural forces. The visual narratives depict roots and blooming organic forms, creating a statement about the fragility of living things and their temporal nature.
After viewing the artwork, visitors are welcome to explore the 83 acres of Fairchild’s tropical landscapes while reflecting on the inextricable link between human existence and nature and the synergistic intertwining of nature and art.
Mira Lehr is a New York-born, Miami-based multimedia artist whose career spans four decades. She was instrumental in mobilizing the female voice in abstract expressionist art and co-founded the Continuum Gallery, one of the first women’s co-op galleries in the southeast. She has served as a mentor to emerging artists and has taught master classes with the National YoungArts Foundation. Her work has been on view in more than 300 exhibitions and installations including the Bass Museum of Art, Perez Art Museum Miami, the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, The New Museum, and the Getty Museum Research Center.
