The Rest is History

The exhibition examines the definition of the word “history” and how it manifests within each artist’s work. The word “history” has gone through many applications since its Ancient Geek origins as “historía.” But it was in the Greek sense that Francis Bacon used the term in the late sixteenth century when he wrote about Natural History. For him, “historia” was “the knowledge of objects determined by space and time,” the sort of knowledge provided by memory. Francis Bacon’s use of the word is a point of departure for “The Rest is History.”
