Antologia Scelta 2018

Tornabuoni Arte Milan, Via Fatebenefratelli, 34/36, Milan, Italy

Tornabuoni Arte renews its annual exhibition of carefully selected art works. This year also celebrates the thirtieth edition of the Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Art, which accompanies both the works on display and the entire Tornabuoni collection as a whole. The catalogue is introduced with a text by Gino Pisapia and is divided, for the first time, into three separate categories: Italian Artists, International Artists and Contemporary Proposals.

The section dedicated to pieces by Italian artists from Tornabuoni’s vast and illustrious collection, including (and amongst many others) Carla Accardi, , Umberto Boccioni, Giacomo Balla, Giorgio De Chirico, Felice Casorati, Marino Marini, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Castellani. As well as Alighieri Boetti, Emilio Isgrò and artists from groups and movements which characterised the Italian art scene in the second half of the century and then, of course, representatives of the Arte Povera movement with the likes of Merz, Zorio and Calzolari .

The International section includes names such as Tony Cragg, presenting an immense glass sculpture, the unmistakable mark of Keith Haring with acrylic on leather and the transience of the human species is explored by Anselm Keifer with Ave Maria. Here too there are works by artists who have made there mark in the history of twentieth century art, from Marc Chagall to Joan Mirò and Jean Dubuffet, from Andy Warholl to the likes of Richard Long.

The show concludes with its contemporary proposals section, with their diverse areas of research such as Vanessa Beecroft and her Tableaux Vivants, in which she investigates the female body; sculptures by the American Mikayel Ohanjanyan (winner of Golden Lion for Best National Participation in the 2015 Venice Biennale), Norwegian Anne-Karin Furunes and her collections of archival photos,  works by Francesca Pasquali and last but by no means least the innovative and vibrating work by Carlo Rea.
