Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini, Milan, in collaboration with Musei Vaticani, presents the exhibition “Gaugin, Chagall, Matisse. Il sacrificio e la speranza. Opere francesi dai Musei Vaticani”, displaying the masterpieces of XIX and XX-century French art.
The project offers a deeper reflection on the Passion and Resurrection of Christ, and on the relationship between modernity and tradition in the sacred art of that period. The exhibition displays over 20 works of unparalleled artists, including Paul Gauguin, Auguste Rodin, Marc Chagall, Maurice Denis, Henri Matisse, Georges Rouault, defined by pope Paolo VI as the “guardians of the beauty of the world”.
