Giulio Paolini: Teoria Delle Apparenze

Fumagalli, Via Bonaventura Cavalieri 6, 20121, Milan, Italy

Fumagalli Gallery in Milan present the exhibition “Giulio Paolini. Teoria delle apparenze”, an overview of the artists’ work from 1969 to 2015. Paolini is considered one of the most representative artists of the Italian avant-garde.

The artist explores the metaphysical and regenerative nature of artistic practice, “My way of operating is in relationship, a continuous relay, between the previous and upcoming artwork. Every painting is ultimately the replica of the previous one (I would sat that it comes to life as a replica of the previous one)”.

The show includes his installations, drawings, collages, plaster cast and photography. With works beginning with “Quam raptim as sublima” produced in 1969 (to the sublime as soon as possible) which explores the ethereal nature of language. We are presented with the artists’ deceptive use of perspective in works such as “Teoria delle apparenze” 1972 and “Equivalenza” 1975. From the mid 70s ideas about repetition and references to the cyclical seep into his work. The “Grandezza Naturale” 1986/87 looks into the notion of the natural.  His more recents works on show include “Studio per Da lontano” 2015, a sketch for his intervention for the Baroque temple of Museoo Cappella Sansevero in Naples.

Giulio Paolini was born in Genoa in 1940, he lives and works in Turin.
