Lorenzo Vitturi: Droste Effect, Debris and Other Problems

After the international success received with Dalston Anatomy work, Viasaterna presents the first solo exhibition in Italy by Lorenzo Vitturi (Venice, 1980). The exhibition is curated by Fantom showcases a collection of new works designed for the gallery space.
“Droste Effect , Debris and Other Problems”  is a project born in 2013 inspired by a multitude of fragments and debris found in Dalston landfill: a London neighborhood where the artist lives, subject to an increasing process of gentrification and real estate development with new luxury buildings and commercial chains, within an area characterized by a strong multicultural presence.
Found objects are only the starting point from which the work of Vitturi was born: once photographed, their images are printed and combined with other elements. The same compositions then become subject to new photographs, staged within actual own sets whose colors recall those of the royal sculptures.
The result is a new series that starts with the last image of Dalston Anatomy, the book published in 2013 by the publisher Self Pubblish Be Happy and selected among the thirty best photo books of the year by Aperture Foundation .
Moving away a little vibrant aesthetics described in Dalston Anatomy life colors Droste Effect, Debris and Other Problems become milder, more abstract forms, and the only trace that remains of man is to be seen within the advertising posters New real estate agencies. As well as a painting which contains in its interior a smaller version of the painting itself, the Droste Effect series, Debris and Other Problems proceeds for references and layers, giving voice to the chaotic nature of the transformations related to urban changes.
