This exhibition takes place by tacit consent, without the artist’s involvement. Luigi D’Eugenio allowed nearly 300 paintings to be taken the week before Christmas.

D’Eugenio lives and works in 25 square metres. He rarely leaves, devoting himself to oil painting on bedsheets, layering them with water-soluble embroidery film. He paints from bottom to top, like a fax machine—meticulous, slow, unforgiving. A mistake is a betrayal. He makes his own pigments, reduces definition to find meaning, and repeats the same process daily.

There is comfort in his self-imposed isolation, a world under total control. He has no résumé, no market, and wants none. This is the exhibition of someone who doesn’t officially exist.
