Maria Lai | Antonio Marras: Paso Doble
M77 Gallery presents “Maria Lai|Antonio Marras: Paso Doble”, curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti. The exhibition brings together over two hundred works, tracing both affinities and differences between the two artists through a choreographic display of gestures, threads and fragments.
Conceived as a dialogue, the exhibition unfolds as a dynamic interplay in which the practices intersect and diverge without merging into a single identity. Each work contributes to a rhythm of balance and counterpoint, recalling the structure of a traditional “paso doble”. Maria Lai’s practice engages drawing, stitching, books and conceptual forms, while Antonio Marras explores multiple languages through a more theatrical and layered approach. For both, the creative act operates as a departure from known reality, extending visual language towards new possibilities.
The exhibition includes drawings, books, paintings, collages, installations and sculptures spanning from 1954 to 2025, alongside collaborative works and previously unseen pieces. The display, designed by the curator, organises the presentation across two floors, establishing a spatial dialogue between the artists. An additional section pays tribute to Daniela Zedda. The exhibition invites viewers to engage actively with the works, encouraging a gradual process of observation shaped by light and spatial perception.
