Maria Lai

Born in Ulassai, 1919 and lives in 2013

Maria Lai was an Italian artist born in and died in Sardinia. In 1940 she left the Italian island to enroll at the Art School in Rome. Her crucial meeting for her artistic career was with Marino Mazzacurati , in Rome, and than she attended the course of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice under the guidance of Arturo Martini. After the Second World War, in the turmoil that disoriented all the art world that Lai experimented and shown up her vocation. Her continuos researches of different techniques and materials brought her to create a new language in sculpture.
