Miró incontra Maria Lai: Il fascino della sorpresa
The CaMuC and Stazione dell’Arte in Ulassai host the works of Joan Miró—including graphic works, paintings, tapestries, and unique pieces from the Fundació de Arte Serra in Palma de Mallorca—in dialogue with a selection of works by Maria Lai, an artist who intertwines traditions and memories into a singular visual language.
Curated by Lola Durán Úcar and Marco Peri, the exhibition explores the poetic and imaginative dimensions of both artists’ practices. Miró constructs universes of signs and colours, transforming reality into symbolic constellations, while Maria Lai stitches together stories and relationships through threads of memory and material.
Both artists are rooted in Mediterranean islands: Miró maintained a profound connection with Majorca, while Lai was deeply tied to Sardinia. These landscapes shaped their imaginations yet also spurred them to explore new horizons. Miró immersed himself in Paris’s 20th-century avant-garde, while Lai spent formative periods in Rome and Venice. Yet each ultimately returned to their native islands for the most mature phase of their careers, drawing from them an inexhaustible well of inspiration.
