The Art Happens Here: Net Art’s Archival Poetics
Leveraging on Rhizome’s expertise in the field, the exhibition “The Art Happens Here: Net Art’s Archival Poetics” collects sixteen works, spanning different moments of net art history to encompass various forms such as websites, software, sculpture, graphics, books and merchandise.
The selection on display results from “Net Art Anthology”, Rhizome’s online exhibition featuring one hundred works which tried to establish a canon for net art pieces. Rhizome, in fact, is committed to archive, display and preserve digital-born works, which otherwise could only survive partially. The showcase at New Museum intends to reflect on the ways to archive and narrate online artistic practices giving their ephemeral and performative nature, featuring works by Shu Lea Cheang, Alexei Shulgin, Bunny Rogers and Filip Olszewski, Mark Tribe, among the others.
