Amélie Bertrand: Hyper Nuit
Amélie Bertrand is a contemporary artist who constructs surreal, disquieting landscapes using familiar motifs like brick walls, metal fences, and water lilies, sourced from internet keyword searches. These elements are meticulously composed into “credible spaces” that blur the line between the real and the artificial, evoking a mirage-like sensation. Central to her work is the water lily, reimagined as both a form and a geometric motif, allowing her to explore the formal possibilities of painting. Bertrand’s technique involves digital design followed by precise, single-layer oil painting, creating smooth, flawless surfaces and subtle gradients. Her color palette, soft yet vivid, contributes to the impossible lighting effects that define her distinctive, immersive visual language.
