Eva Gonzalès: Parcours d’une artiste libre

Petit Palais, Av. Winston Churchill, 75008 Paris, France

The Petit Palais presents a major monographic exhibition devoted to the painter Eva Gonzalès. Bringing together almost one hundred paintings, pastels and prints, the exhibition offers an overview of her career and artistic development.

Organised chronologically, the exhibition traces Gonzalès’s career from her early works to the paintings produced during the final years of her life.

The exhibition highlights the intimate character of Gonzalès’s work, with a particular focus on female figures and scenes of everyday life. Interior scenes, portraits and landscapes painted along the Normandy coast form a significant part of her oeuvre.

Gonzalès’s artistic practice was closely connected to her family and personal circle. Her sister Jeanne frequently appeared as a model and also played a role in her artistic training.

The exhibition places her work in dialogue with that of Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt and Marie Bracquemond, highlighting the different approaches and shared contexts of women artists working in France during the late 19th century. It offers an opportunity to consider Gonzalès’s contribution to the period and the distinctive place of her work within the development of modern painting.
