Rirkrit Tiravanija: In Aliens We Trust

Chantal Crousel, 10 Rue Charlot, 75003

Rirkrit Tiravanija (b. 1961, Buenos Aires) presents a new exhibition featuring recent works, including collaborations with longtime friends. Through sculpture, canvases layered with newspaper and silver leaf, and photography, the artist extends his exploration of community and otherness within a pristine white setting.

For more than three decades, Tiravanija has developed a groundbreaking practice that dissolves the boundaries of the exhibition format. His works often take the form of situations—shared meals, print workshops, temporary structures, or improvised gatherings—that encourage human interaction and redefine the role of the viewer. By transforming galleries into spaces of conviviality, reciprocity and hospitality, he shifts art away from objecthood toward lived experience.

Tiravanija has received major recognition, including the Hugo Boss Prize (2004) and the Gordon Matta-Clark Foundation Award (1993). He has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions worldwide, at institutions such as Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin; MoMA PS1, New York; Haus der Kunst, Munich; LUMA Arles; Tate Modern, London; and Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris. His work has also featured in leading biennials, including São Paulo, Whitney, and Venice.

Held in major collections including MoMA, New York; Tate, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and Inhotim, Brumadinho, his work remains a vital force in contemporary art, continually asking how we inhabit spaces together and what forms of relation art can enable.
