Rosana Paulino
Rosana Paulino’s work centres on social, ethnic and gender issues, focusing in particular on Black women in Brazilian society and the different forms of violence they have experienced as a result of racism and the enduring legacy of slavery. Her practice explores the impact of memory on psychosocial constructions, bringing together references that connect her personal history with Brazil’s complex historical experience—how it was shaped in the past and how its effects continue to persist today.
Paulino’s research also examines the construction of myths, considering them not only as aesthetic structures but as forces that shape individual and collective imaginaries. A fundamental figure in Brazilian art, Paulino has developed a practice centred on the reconstruction of images and, beyond this, on the reconstruction of memory and the myth.
