Souvenirs de Jeunesse
“Souvenirs de jeunesse” is a comprehensive exhibition at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, tracing over two centuries of artistic education from 1780 to 1980. Showcasing more than 260 works and documents, it highlights the diverse paths of students like Cézanne, Matisse, and Delacroix, reflecting the evolution of art pedagogy. The exhibition spans from David’s challenge to the Académie’s teachings to the post-1968 educational reforms. It features significant loans, including Cézanne’s recommendation and Seurat’s copy of History, and incorporates eco-responsible practices. Curated by Alice Thomine-Berrada, the exhibition also includes contemporary interventions by Beaux-Arts students, offering a fresh perspective on historical artistic practices.
