Surrealist Giacometti. Objects like Sculptures

The exhibition examines Alberto Giacometti’s Surrealist period, from 1929 to 1935, bringing together his sculptural practice and his work in decorative arts. Alongside his better-known Surrealist works, it focuses on lamps, andirons and vases created for Parisian interior designer Jean-Michel Frank.

Often considered separate areas of Giacometti’s practice, these works are presented in dialogue, highlighting connections in their forms, themes and methods of conception. The exhibition considers how his approach to sculpture informed his decorative objects, and how the two practices developed alongside one another.
