Christian Fogarolli: Pneuma at MARe Museum of Recent Art
The second exhibition of the "Pneuma" project brings to Bucharest Fogarolli's research on mental health
The MARe Museum of recent Art, Bucharest, hosts the second instalment of Christian Fogarolli’s “Pneuma”, project supported by the Italian Council (6th Edition 2019) program to promote Italian contemporary art in the world by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism.
Opening on September 4, the exhibition in Bucharest features the artist’s immersive installations, under the curatorship of Erwin Kessler, Diana Stirlea and Gabriele Lorenzoni.
The exhibition path is the result of Fogarolli’s research on mental health in contemporary society, also related to the current international health emergency. Works on view document the artist’s travels, residencies, and collaborations in different European countries, also in cooperation with people in care and sanitary professionals, to investigate the concept of stigma related to mental illness. The artist interrogates our capability of de-stigmatising such this condition, or deviate from the binary opposition between deviance and normality.
In Romania, in particular, Fogarolli worked along with different private and public institutions engaged in mental health and mental recovery.
After Bucharest, the exhibition will travel to Zurich, at Schwarzescafé at Löwenbräukunst, and finally to MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art of Bologna, where the pieces will become part of the museum’s permanent collection.
