A Palavra Palavra

The exhibition A Palavra Palavra [The Word Word], curated by artist Jorge Menna Barreto (b. 1970, Araçatuba, Brazil) with curator Galciani Neves, recreates the project presented by the artist at the 32th Panorama of Brazilian Art (2011, MAM SP), where words, created by the mixing of different terms, were written in rubber mats.

Through the exercise of associating one or more words to a piece of visual art, the rugs have the role of triggering conversations about artworks. The ambiguity of the terms works in favour of an open speech, without a defined point of arrival. The rugs distance themselves, thus, from any enlightening discourse, acting as provocateurs instead of mediators of a previously determined content.

The exhibition is completed by works belonging to the collection of the gallery, composed of multiples created specially for Carbono. The pieces were selected to bring about reflections on how each person perceives and internalizes each of the exhibited artworks.
