Histórias Afro-Atlânticas (Afro-Atlantic Histories)
The collective exhibition “Histórias Afro-Atlânticas” involves two of the main cultural institutions of Sao Paulo, namely MASP and Instituto Tomie Ohtake, with an initiative never seen before. The exhibition includes about 400 artworks by more than 200 artist from all over the world. Works of different artistic languages and traditions come from international museums and collections such as the MASP itself, Metropolitan Museum, J. Paul Getty Museum, Galleria degli Uffizi, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana and more.
The exhibition is organized in thematic units, each of them uniting different artistic movements, geographies and temporalities with the aim to offer an overview of the reciprocal contaminations represented in images from Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean.
