The sculptures and installations included in the solo show dedicated to Sonia Gomes are deeply rooted in artist’s personal history. Her artworks always involve pieces of fabrics, even ancient ones originally part of her family collection. Her city of birth, Caetanopolis, is an important manufacturing centre and as a consequence artist’s childhood was marked by the universe of sewing and embroidery.
Her artistic production is inspired by Brazilian craft practices and the culture of her place of birth, reinterpreting details from traditional clothes or popular festivals, cultural Afro-Brazilian expressions .
