Playgrounds 2016
From 17 March to 24 July 2016, Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) presents the contemporary art project Playgrounds 2016, which will feature six new proposals from artists and collectives around what is the common space, leisure, playfulness and participation of public in the museum. The guests are: Ernesto Neto (Rio de Janeiro), Yto Barrada (Marroco), Céline Condorelli (França/ England), Rasheed Araeen (Paquistão/England), collective Grupo Contrafilé (São Paulo) and Grupo Inteiro (São Paulo).
The name Playgrounds is appropriated from an individual eponymous of the exhibition of Brazilian artist Nelson Leimer, which was held at the inauguration of the building MASP in 1969. The exhibition “Playgrounds” of Leimer, occupied the museum Vão Livre with a number of outdoor works, diminishing and blending between street, urban space and art and life. The new exhibition “Playgrounds 2016”, however, does not intend to recreate the original exhibition with works by Leimer, but to recover the dimension of engagement and the game as an emancipatory form and a way of organizing social and collective life of the museum’s community.
