Retratos: The Last Headline

“Retratos: The Last Headline”, curated by Ricardo Sardenberg, pays homage to the portrait in the form of an installation. The show gathers around 50 works of more than 40 artists, such as Alberto Giacometti, Alfredo Volpi, Antonio Dias, Flavio de Carvalho, Frida Kahlo, Helio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Nan Goldin, Alex Katz and Vik Muniz, among others.

The exhibition intends to present a view of the portrait history in Brazilian and international art, and to question the role that the portrait can maintain in contemporary society. Some highlights as historic pieces from the 19th and 20th century, like the portrait “Dom Pedro II”, 1847, by R.Q. Monvoisin (1790-1870).
