Yoo Youngkuk: Colors from Nature

“Colors from Nature” is the artists first exhibition with Kukje Gallery in Seoul.

Yoo is an artist who established himself as the master and pioneer of Korean abstract art and is widely celebrated for his abstract representations of Korean nature with non-figurative forms including the point, line, and plane—will highlight the late artist’s works from the 1960s. While many would recognize Yoo’s color-field abstraction as a derivative of the vocabularies of western abstraction (especially in comparison to Dansaekhwa), the artist’s textured use of colors presents a stark contrast from the abstract paintings of the West.
