Carol Rama and Guglielmo Castelli: La libertà dei piromani. (The Freedom of Arsonists)
Carol Rama and Guglielmo Castelli: La libertà dei piromani. (The Freedom of Arsonists) brings the work of contemporary artist Guglielmo Castelli into dialogue with the art and legacy of Carol Rama. Curated by Olga Gambari and Cristina Mundici, the exhibition presents five works by Castelli, four of them previously unseen, alongside five works by Rama spanning different periods of her seven-decade career, from a 1939 watercolour to paintings from the 1980s.
The exhibition explores affinities between the two artists’ practices, particularly their representations of the human body, childhood and trauma through painting, drawing and collage. Their work also shares an interest in collecting images, objects and references from the surrounding world, without fixed hierarchies. In both practices, the archive becomes a personal catalogue of memories and visual motifs, continually open to new interpretations. Through this dialogue, Rama’s influence emerges as a living presence, connecting her artistic legacy with the research of younger generations. The exhibition also marks the inauguration of the Archivio Carol Rama’s new operational and cultural space in Turin.
