Mario Merz: Something that removes the weight that retains the absurdity and the lightness of the fable
Fondazione Merz hosts the second part of “Qualcosa che toglie il peso che mantiene l’assurdità e la leggerezza della favola” (“Something that removes the weight that retains the absurdity and the lightness of the fable”), honoring Mario Merz’s centenary. This exhibition, at Via Limone 24, presents an array of Merz’s works, including installations, igloos, canvases, and works on paper. Complementing the first part of the exhibition, three major new works are added to explore the essence of human thought through enduring natural laws. Inspired by Merz’s reflection on nature and time, the exhibition’s title captures a conceptual lightness in its theme. The dreamlike setting features golden hues from “Senza titolo” (foglie d’oro) (1997), the magnolia-shaped tables in wax, and “L’horizont de lumière vases”, creating a soft glow. Two additional igloos from 1989 and 2002 and the painting “Geco in casa” (1983) deepen the interplay of pieces, conjuring a fairy-tale ambiance where objects mingle in poetic transformation.
