Alexander Tovborg: Ghost

Barbati Gallery presents danish artist Alexander Tovborg’s (Born 1983 Copenhagen, Denmark) new exhibition, Ghost. The spaces of the gallery at Palazzo Lezze on Campo Santo Stefano host Tovborg’s new body of works inspired by an enigmatic encounter with a ghost in Venice.

February 2022. “I saw a Ghost. in one of the narrow streets leading up to Campo dei Frari. I saw it reach down for a flower on the street, only to return upright empty-handed. I stood by and watched this scene repeat itself again and again. who was haunting who.”

Taking as his starting point history, mythology, religion, as well as written and oral narratives, Alexander Tovborg draws on the stories that have come before us in order to explore and re-contextualise classical archetypes. In looking at the ways through which we have built our narratives in the past, he proposes a new reading of our current social and political situation, examining who we are and where we find ourselves today.
