Anish Kapoor
Anish Kapoor presents a new exhibition at Palazzo Manfrin, Cannaregio, Venice, during the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The exhibition brings together around 100 architectural models documenting both realised and unrealised projects from the past 50 years of Anish Kapoor’s practice, alongside large-scale installations and stainless-steel works.
The presentation reflects Kapoor’s sustained exploration of sculpture as a means of producing space, extending his interest in the relationship between object and environment. Architectural models, developed as part of his studio practice, are shown as conceptual tools through which ideas of scale, form and transformation are tested.
The exhibition includes works that engage with concavity, reflection and void-like surfaces, alongside installations that manipulate spatial perception. These works address what Kapoor describes as the “non-object”, in which sculpture both occupies and dissolves space.
Works on view include monumental suspended and mirror-based pieces, pigment-based monochromes and silicone and paint environments. The presentation also includes works associated with the artist’s exploration of advanced materials such as Vantablack, extending his investigation into surface, depth and disappearance.
