Anselm Kiefer: Questi scritti, quando verranno bruciati, daranno finalmente un po’ di luce

To coincide with the 59th Venice Biennale, Palazzo Ducale in Venice hosts a new body of work of Anselm Kiefer, a site-specific installation of paintings.

The title of the exhibition could be loosely translated as “These writings, when burned, will finally cast a little light“, in reference to the Venetian philosopher Andrea Emo (1901-1983), whose works fascinated Kiefer, who sees a parallel between Emo’s writings and his own paintings.  In the installation in Palazzo Ducale, Anselm Kiefer reflects upon Venice’s unique position as a contact point between western and oriental culture, but also as a connection between the two poles of a vertical division of the world, north and south.
