Diana Policarpo: The Soul Expanding Ocean #4
The TBA21–Academy presents artist Diana Policarpo's "Ciguatera" for the 4th encounter of "The Soul Expanding Ocean" at Ocean Space.
TBA21–Academy presents the 4th exhibition belonging to the biennial cycle “The Soul Expanding Ocean” curated by Chus Martínez and hosted by Ocean Space.
The fourth encounter takes place in parallel with the 59th Venice Biennale and features the Portuguese artist Diana Policarpo, who mainly uses sounds and visual compositions such as drawing, video, sculpture, text. For this exhibition, Policarpo realizes “Ciguatera”, an environmental scenography that results from her naturalistic research in the Savage Islands, a small Portuguese archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Policarpo sees the Ocean with an empathetic gaze, being attentive to its natural biodiversity, observing all the small inhabitants of this environment. In “Ciguatera” she transposes her observation from Savage Island’s natural environment, managing to create a dreamy and almost science-fictional underwater aesthetics. This extremely immersive environmental sculpture aims to generate a sense of aquatic liquefaction, virtually transporting the observer inside the North Atlantic Ocean.
