Edmondo Bacci: Energy and Light
With approximately eighty paintings and unpublished drawings, on loan from national and international museums and private collections, the exhibition will be the first and most extensive retrospective dedicated to Venetian artist Edmondo Bacci (1913–1978). Bacci was an international painter, one of the few Italian artists to achieve widespread success during his lifetime and exhibit in major Italian and international galleries and museums.
The sheer force and quality of his work drew the attention of critics and collectors, including Peggy Guggenheim, who were active in Venice’s vibrant cultural scene in the 1950s. Bacci was one of the finest representatives of Venetian art, together with, among others, Tancredi Parmeggiani and Emilio Vedova who during the same period achieved international success and acclaim. The exhibition will pay tribute to Bacci by focusing on the 1950s, the most lyrical and successful decade of his work, in Venice, his place of birth, his source of inspiration, and the city which confirmed his success with a solo exhibition gallery at the 29th Venice Biennale in 1958.
