John Baldessari: No Stone Unturned – Conceptual Photography
Pioneer of conceptual art, John Baldessari (1931–2020) continually challenged the way we understand both artworks and the words and images that shape our daily lives.
For over seven decades, he produced paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographic series, editions, and videos that drew from everyday life and visual culture, transforming found images and inventing his own to create thought-provoking, often humorous works.
“No Stone Unturned – Conceptual Photography”, the largest exhibition of Baldessari’s work in Venice to date, focuses on a crucial aspect and period of his practice. It highlights how his conceptual approach to photography, first explored in the 1960s, opened up new pathways for contemporary art and laid the groundwork for the rest of his influential body of work and career.
