Lino Selvatico: A second Belle Époque

Ca’ Pesaro, Santa Croce 2076, Venice, Italy

In order to promote the rich nucleus of works by Lino Selvatico (Padova 1872 – Treviso 1924), the property of the Civic Museums of Venice, Ca’ Pesaro is dedicating a comprehensive study to this important Venetian personality from the Belle Époque by presenting alongside the museum collection an additional ten works belonging to his heirs. Many of these paintings have been recently restored and are on public display for the first time.

The exhibition as a whole traces the painter’s career, fully illustrating his biography and bibliography in the accompanying catalogue published to mark the occasion. An artist of great relevance emerges, whose major characteristics are presented in the large-format portraits he made for Venetian and Milanese high society, but also through lesser-known examples linked to the imagery and visual culture of the Belle Époque.
