Mary Weatherford: The Flaying of Marsyas

Museo di Palazzo Grimani presents “The Flaying of Marsyas“, an exhibition of new works by Mary Weatherford, to coincide with the 59th Venice Biennale.

The exhibition features new canvases produced between January and March 2021.

The works were inspired by Titian’s great, late titular masterpiece of 1570–76 and reflect Weatherford’s enduring fondness for his work. Alluding to the Renaissance painter’s subdued palette while paying tribute to the distinctive light of Italy, they achieve a comparable marriage of figuration and abstraction.

The exhibition has been designed in collaboration with architect and designer Kulapat Yantrasast.
