Soft Baroque: Inox Detox
There are certain architectural and hardware typologies that seemed to have reached a dead end. The stainless steel handrail has become a ubiquitous silver worm in institutions and homes. It is an object that strives to have no aesthetic, practically and culturally hygienic. For us it represents the pervasiveness of a certain brand of corporate modernism, desperate to create value but not offend, a hollow snake silently constricting stairways and balconies indefinitely.
“Inox Detox” is a series of pieces using standard stainless steel tubes, rotary laser cut and bent. The handrail material is taken to more extreme conclusions, escaping the dead end.
Traditional log furniture is defined by its construction technique, round mortice and tenon, and rustic raw material, small logs. We are bisecting this definition by using square and planed timber rather than round wood. “Square Log” furniture is a pathetic gesture to force us to come to terms with our pathological role as fixers of the nature.
