The Only True Protest is Beauty
“The Only True Protest Is Beauty” brings together over two hundred objects drawn from fashion, jewellery, design, art, photography, glass, ceramics, and material experimentation, installed across the rooms of Palazzo Pisani Moretta. The title, inspired by activist Phil Ochs, frames beauty not as a fixed ideal but as a catalyst for intensity, provocation, and transformation.
Curated by Dries Van Noten with Geert Bruloot, the exhibition treats craftsmanship as a language of expression and a conduit for emotion, deliberately moving beyond the boundaries of traditional disciplines. Works respond to one another and to the building itself – its ceilings, frescoes, and ornamental details – forming compositions that unfold through affinities and contrasts as visitors move from the ground floor through the Piano Nobile. The Palazzo functions as an active participant rather than a neutral container, shaping the relationships between forms, materials, and histories. Throughout, the exhibition holds the tension between mastery and discovery, reflection and provocation, presenting making as an ongoing process of inquiry rather than the demonstration of a fixed skill.
