Italy 2017

Cecilia Alemani curates the Italian National Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, with an exhibition entitled “Il Mondo Magico”, featuring work of art by Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Roberto Cuoghi and Adelita Husni-Bey.

The show takes its titled by a famous book written by the Naples born anthropologist Ernesto De Martino, the curator has invited the three selected artist to create projects specifically for the exhibition.

“With their works, Giorgio Andreotti Calò, Roberto Cuoghi and Adelita Hosni-Bey represent complementary and different ways of making art in Italy. The three artists are born in Italy between the mid 70s and the mid 80s and have emerged on the national and international art scene in the last part of this new century, achieving different levels of recognition:from promising young Husni-Bey to the most mature work of Cuoghi. Their works and their languages are global but intimately related to the culture of our country. Contrary to the past, I chose to invite a smaller group of artists in order to align the Italian Pavilion to the other ones in the Biennale. My project doesn’t aim at giving a complete look on contemporary art in Italy but rather  wants to analyze in depth the work of these three artist” stated Cecilia Alemani.
