The Portland Art Museum and SITE Santa Fe, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State, present Jeffrey Gibson as the U.S. representative at the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
Titled “Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me,” the exhibition runs from April 20 to November 24, 2024, providing a unique opportunity for international audiences to experience Gibson’s art.
Gibson’s work blends American, Indigenous, and Queer histories with music and pop culture influences, using vibrant visuals to explore identity, empathy, and the pursuit of democracy. The U.S. Pavilion will showcase sculptures, paintings, multimedia works, and a site-specific installation in the courtyard, all reflecting on individual and collective identities, the title references Oglala Lakota poet Layli Long Soldier’s poem “Ȟe Sápa.”
