Centro Pecci reopens with “Interregnum” an exhibition by Adrian Paci

Centro Pecci in Prato (Florence) reopens with an exhibition by Adrian Paci, curated by Cristiana Perella.
The video installation “Interregnum” by Adrian Paci (Scutari, 1969) was chosen for the dialogue it establishes with the exhibition “The Missing Planet“, a recognition of post-Soviet art starting from the Centro Pecci collection. Interregnum (2017) presents a montage of sequences of funerals of communist dictators of different nationalities and eras, recovered from the state archives or from Albanian television broadcasts. The video connects different communist realities through the shared language of pain and mourning. “Interregnum” first shows men, women, children taken in the foreground, in tears, and then moves on to shots from afar, which see them ordered in kilometric queues: the individual body becomes a collective body that occupies large urban spaces. The film reveals, on the one hand, the pain of the individuals who, as the author points out, “was not contemplated in communist society” but which nevertheless manifests itself unstoppable, freed from the death of the leaders, on the other hand, it makes us witness a crescendo in which the manipulation of the masses and the depersonalization of individual identity by the regimes become increasingly evident.
