Barry X Ball

Barry X Ball was born in 1955 in Pasadena and lives and works in New York City.

He has revitalised the centuries-old tradition of figurative sculpture through the use of unconventional materials and methods. Ball employs a complex range of equipment and processes to create his sculptures, which range from the avant-garde to tradition, from digital 3D scanning and virtual modelling to 3D printing and computer-controlled milling, through to highly detailed hand carving and polishing. While paying reverent homage to their historical antecedents, his works are entirely new. With their feverish intensity and surreal stillness, Barry X Ball’s virtuosic works offer a rich opportunity to reconsider contemporary sculptural practice.
