Artist

José Bento

Born in Salvador, 1962 and lives in Belo Horizonte, Brazil

The self taught artist José Bento is working since the 80s primarily with wooden sculptures, together with videos, drawings and photography. His meticulously made objects that often resembles ordinary utensils together with large scale installation made out of the same materials shows the intimacy he has with the handling of wood, from fallen trees to noble wooden boards. Bento presented his works in many institutions both in Brazil and abroad, such as Museu de Arte da Pampulha and Casa Guignard.
