Demian Flores
Demián Flores Cortés (Juchitán, Oaxaca, 1971) is a prominent Mexican visual artist, widely recognised for his contribution to contemporary printmaking. Founder of the cultural centre La Curtiduría AC and the Taller Gráfica Actual in Oaxaca, his work explores the cultural richness of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and Oaxacan identity. He holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas at UNAM and has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the First Prize at the Latin American Printmaking Competition ‘La Joven Estampa’ in Havana, Cuba (1997), and the Mentes Quo + Discovery Award for Vanguard Practice in 2012.
Throughout his career, Flores Cortés has participated in solo and group exhibitions in prestigious institutions in Mexico and abroad, such as the Museo Nacional de la Estampa (Mexico City), the Franz Mayer Museum, and the Instituto de México in Madrid. His work has been recognised in international events including the Bharat Bhavan International Biennial of Print Art in India and the International Print Biennial in Tijuana. Alongside his artistic practice, his educational work and his commitment to the advancement of contemporary printmaking in Oaxaca have established him as a key figure in today’s artistic landscape.
