Jonas Lund
Born in 1984, Jonas Lund is a Swedish-born artist who is currently based between Amsterdam and Berlin. He received his MA from Piet Zwart Institute in 2013 and his BFA from Gerrit Rietvald Academy in 2009. Lund began his artistic career in 2012 with a residency at Eyebeam, the New York based technology centre. He is revered for his conceptual art which combines cutting-edge digital technology with critical commentary on contemporary networking systems and power structures. His work ranges from politically engaged installations that challenge institutions by commenting on the faults of the art market, especially concerning the common practice of ‘flipping art’. An example of Lund’s political engagement was his recent controversial exhibition at The Photographer’s Gallery in London (2019), titled ‘Operation Earnest Voice’ which aimed to reverse the decision of Brexit in England. In 2018, Lund pioneered his own crypto currency named the ‘Jonas Lund Token’ which functions as a platform for ‘voting shares’ in his artistic practice. This collaborative process gave birth to a new art form which Lund coined as ‘performance art capitalism’. Lund’s engaging work has been displayed on an international scale in galleries such as Galleria Bianconi in Milan, the Whitechapel gallery in London and the New Museum in New York
