Friedrich Kunath
Friedrich Kunath (1974, Chemnitz, Germany) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and video. Living and working in Los Angeles since 2007, Kunath creates deeply evocative and often humorous works that merge German Romanticism with American pop culture. His paintings – lush, dreamlike landscapes layered with poetic phrases and fragments from music or film – reflect on longing, melancholy, and the absurdity of everyday life.
A graduate of the Braunschweig University of Arts (1998), Kunath has exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Kunstsammlung Jena, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga, KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art in Berlin, and G2 Kunsthalle Leipzig. His work is represented in major public collections including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
