Hajnal Németh

Born in Szőny, 1972 and lives in Berlin

Hajnal Németh (1972) is a media- and performance artist living in Berlin. Her photographic, video and new media works drew early attention in the nineties. She participated in the 2nd Berlin Biennale in 2001. She graduated at the Intermedia department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2000, where she has been leading a course since 2010. Recently she deals with tropes and ideologies that inform public opinion in European societies. Since the 2000’s she has turned gradually towards the performative mediums: she applies the toolbar of traditional theatrical genres – such as the opera and the drama –, but she often uses pop music as a source too. She founded the Lada project in Berlin in 2007. (www.ladaproject.com) Hajnal Németh was nominated for the Nam June Paik Award and the Aviva Award in 2010, she represented Hungary at the Venice Biennial in 2011. She recently participated in exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo, RAM Foundation Rotterdam, Kunsthal Rotterdam, or NGBK Berlin.
