Solimar Natalia Miller

Born in San Juan and lives in Dubai

Solimar natalia Miller is born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Solimar is a textile designer and artist. She is known for her highly detailed textile, carpet, and surface designs for luxury hotels, homes, and international brands. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Textile / Surface Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She also studied illustration at Parsons School of Design. She is a member of the Tashkeel Studio in Dubai.

Nature and the environment are an inspiration and a concern for Solimar Natalia Miller, who’s interest in trees, flora, and climate change has led to works influenced by topographic elements that are changing rapidly in the current landscape. Deforestation and loss of biodiversity has made it necessary to emphasize the need to reforest the earth and restore habitats, which will protect species and significantly reduce climate change.

Having lived in Dubai for over 20 years, her focus has been on documenting the infinite beauty of the indigenous trees in the region.

In 2018, Solimar started work on a series of drawings and hand silk-screened prints of the majestic tree species present in the Emirates. Experimenting with different mediums and printing techniques to illuminate the vulnerability posed by global warming impacts her desire to capture detail in her work. She strives to infuse these elements into thought provoking expressions that convey the delicate synergy of their imperative existence. Protecting and preserving trees are integral to our survival and speaks to Solimar’s creative process.
