Between the Sky and the Earth: Contemporary Art from the UAE

NYUAD Art Gallery celebrates the United Arab Emirates' 50th anniversary with a group exhibition that depicts the contemporary UAE's artistic landscape.

The Middle East Institute (MEI) Arts and Culture Center and The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery present an exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates.

“Between the Sky and the Earth: Contemporary Art from the UAE”, conceived by independent, Abu Dhabi-based curator Munira Al Sayegh, runs at The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery from 3 December 2021 to 31 March 2022. The exhibition brings together artworks by 12 different artists from different backgrounds, displaying an intergenerational dialogue that offers a US audience a heterogeneous picture of the UAE’s cultural landscape.

The featured artists Ebtisam Abdulaziz, Afra Al Dhaheri, Tarek Al-Ghoussein,  Hashel Al Lamki, Shaikha Al Mazrou, Asma Belhamar, Alaa Edris, Lamya Gargash, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, Mohammed Kazem, Solimar Miller, Augustine Paredes collectively narrate the history of their land exploring a range of subjects such as the environment, consumerism and the impact of rapid urbanization on individuals and societies.
